OpenVMS in an operating system created in 1976 by the Digital Equipment Corporation for the 32-bit PDP-11 computer line that was eventually named VAX. It is currently developed and supported by VMS Software Inc. based in Burlington, MA, USA.

Architectures

OpenVMS currently works with three architectures: 32-bit VAX, 64-bit Alpha, and 64-bit Integrity. Transition to x86 is underway.
